Albany Man Sentenced for Burglary

An Albany man was sentenced to nine years in state prison before Judge Peter Lynch in Albany County Court on Friday.

Shakee Perkins, 26, pleaded guilty to one count of second degree burglary back in September for breaking into a home.

Back in November 2012, Perkins broke into a home on Myrtle Avenue and stole various electronics, jewelry, and other valuables. He also clogged the bathroom sink and left the water running, causing extensive damage to the home totaling approximately $20,000.

Albany police were able to track down Perkins by a fingerprint he left on a window at the scene of the crime. Officers then arrested Perkins at his home, where some of the stolen property was recovered.

After Perkins is released from state prison, he will also be under five years of post-release supervision.

Child Arrested for Assault

An 11-year-old Albany boy was arrested for assaulting a school bus driver earlier this month.

Back on Jan. 17, Albany police responded to Linden Avenue and Kakely Street for a report of an assault.

When they arrived, a school bus driver for Durham School Services told officers that while he was operating the bus, two male students on board began to fight.

The school bus driver told police that while he was attempting to intervene and break up the fight, one of the students involved pushed him down the stairs and punched him in the head.

The driver, a 58-year-old Albany man, suffered a contusion and pain to his head. He was treated at the scene by medical personnel and transported to St. Peter’s Hospital for further evaluation.

Officers arrested the suspect, whose name was not released due to his age, on the scene without an incident and charged him with second degree assault.

In New York State, it is a felony to cause physical injury to a bus operator or station agent employed by any transit agency, company, or authority.

The suspect was transported to the Albany Police Children and Family Services Unit. He was released to a family member with an appearance ticket to appear in family court at a later date.
