Hello, You

Hello, “You” fans! Netflix has finally released the anticipated third of four seasons of their original show, “You.” It was a very different take on the show, keeping the first and second seasons in mind, because, spoiler alert, this time it isn’t really Joe doing all of the killing. Within the first couple episodes, Love had already killed her next door neighbor Natalie, which sent the entire season rolling like a snowball into an avalanche. The season was definitely rich in context and detail, showing more revealing backstories in Joe’s past life that explain what made him into who he currently is, as well as a very important, new detail in Love’s backstory that she never shared- she killed her first husband! I bet no one saw that coming; I sure didn’t. There were also many changes and tweaks to the characters, especially Love, in this season as well. Love lost her charm of being a genuine, authentic girl, and instead became more of a shell, or just a happy face. She just wasn’t that nice anymore. Could this have been foreshadowed?

Introducing baby Henry, of Joe and Love, in the first episode set a new mode for the show instantly. Now Joe only stays with Love because of their child? We slowly see him being driven mad by Love, annoyed by her quirks that he once adored. Once again, Joe is swept off of his feet by another stranger- this time, Marienne. He goes through all of the motions in order to get to her, too. If you thought Love and Joe were forever, guess again, because that is not what Netflix had in mind. Joe and Marienne become extremely close until the very end, where at the very height of it all, he even retreats alone to her home city, anticipating her return so that they can finally be together once and for all. Joe is seen working at a bar in Paris, France, in the last episode, which also begs the question, why does he think Marienne would succumb to drinking? Does he think because of “Love’s” murdering spree, Marienne would be too devastated to function properly? It definitely had fans on edge, eager for the last season of the show.

Another important thing to mention here is that at the very end, Henry is left with his new family- Dante and his partner. This was a bittersweet moment in the show; it was sad to see Henry be given to someone so that he grows up without his birth parents, but it was also probably better for him to grow up with two parents who already wanted a new baby and could handle the responsibilities. He would also grow up with siblings in his new home. It definitely left me wondering if they might mention when Henry gets older or not; maybe he would turn out like Joe and Love, or maybe he’d resent them for who they were. Perhaps someday he could even write a book about them. There are endless possibilities and scenarios that could come after this third season wrapped itself up. It had a good turn out, and many fans are hungry for more. We eagerly wait for word from Netflix for the return of the last and final season- “4 You”.
