On Feb. 17, Student Association held their weekly general meeting over Zoom and that week’s special order was Amanda Wingle, campus coordinator from the The Albany County Crime Victim and Sexual Violence Center (ACVSVC). Wingle informed students that ACVSVC deals with all types of crimes and provides many services within Albany County and since The College of Saint Rose is within Albany, it is applicable to the students.

As a campus coordinator, Wingle’s job is to provide education to colleges and high schools around the county on how to prevent crimes and give resources to those who would like to report. Services that ACVSVC provides are twenty-four hour sexual assault crisis line (which provides support for instances that happened long ago or had just occurred and want to know what to do), online crisis chat (direct messaging with a crisis counselor Monday through Friday 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. – 6 p.m.), free counseling services, and emergency room accompaniment (an advocate to provide support and resources).

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, most services are remote or over the phone as well as staff limitations but they do hope to expand soon. As February is Relationship Wellness/ Healthy Relationship Month, Wingle mentioned the One Love Foundation, which is a good resource to use to educate young people on how to educate people about relationship violence and identify signs of abuse.

To contact Wingle for any resources or questions, she can be contacted at amanda.wingle@albanycountyny.gov or 518-447-7100. ACVSVC can be found on social media at @albanycvsvc .

Augusta O’Connell announced that Sodexo set up The Annie Sheeley Emergency Fund, which donated 5,000 meal swipes and different departments on campus have donated to it as well and the college will match those donations.

On Feb. 24, Student Association held their weekly general meeting over Zoom and that week’s special order was Lieutenant Felix Rosa, who was just hired as assistant of security. Rosa was previously employed by the college as an adjunct professor in the criminal justice department during 2013 – 2019.

“I’m glad to be in another role,” said Rosa.

Rosa reminded students that security provides escorts, which is if someone doesn’t feel comfortable going from one place to another, someone from security will walk with you. However, due to staffing issues, wait times might be longer. He also advised students to sign up for the RAVE alert system, which can be found under the “Personal Information” Menu on Bannerweb.

For any questions, comments or concerns about security, Rosa can be reached at rosaf@strose.edu or 518-454-2020.
Cherèva McClellan, director of student life and coordinator of family relations, let students know of a series Joan Horgan, Director of Spiritual Life, will be holding the week of Mar. 1 for Understanding & Undoing ISMS: Racism, Communities of Color and the Justice System.
