On March 31, Student Association held their weekly general meeting over Zoom. The week’s special order was Amanda Bastiani, Director of Prevention Education & Response and Title IX Coordinator. Bastiani spoke about her new intern, a social work major named Jordan Lictenberger, and they are working on a campaign that needs feedback from students. In this campaign, it will work as a peer to peer model and will focus on prevention and similar topics.

The campaign is called “CCRT,” which stands for ‘campus grant project team’. After receiving a $300,000 grant from the United States Department of Justice Office on Violence Against Women in 2019, this team was established to make sure the Title IX resources at the college helped students get the resources they need if such crimes were to happen and to provide education in a variety of topics.

“Any student is welcome to join! It is comprised of folks from our college as well as community agencies,” said Bastiani via Zoom chat.

They are looking for students to participate as they found that people in sexual assault cases are more likely to tell another person, but only if they are close to or trust each other.

Any interest in participating can reach out to either Bastiani at bastiana@strose.edu or Lictenberger at lichtenbergerj377@strose.edu.

On April 7, Student Association held their weekly general meeting over Zoom. The week’s special order was Lori Anctil, associate vice president and director of Athletics. Before Anctil spoke, Jaden Hromada, director of social activities for Student Association, announced what events were going to take place in place of a typical Rose Rock. A series of events will take place from April 19 to 24 and all events will be virtual. However, there will be a variety of viewing parties around campus.

If there are people on dance teams who are interested in performing, they are advised to reach out to Hromada at hromadaj321@strose.edu.
Anctil spoke about the progress the Athletics Department has been through since the beginning of the fall 2020 semester. NCA guidelines and restrictions were being followed as fall competitions were not held. When January came around and basketball competitions were allowed to be held, NCA guidelines said colleges needed to have testing requirements for practices and competitions.

Anctil said they knew that restrictions were coming during summer 2020 and they were not financially prepared at the time, but that is when they started fundraisers and asked donors for help.

As of right now, students are allowed to attend in person games, as long as they are held outdoors, such as the Plumeri Sports Complex located at 20 Frisbie Ave in Albany. For sports in the next school year, it is not known yet how athletics is going to look since it depends on the rate of positive cases. There is also no information yet whether the NCA will require students to be fully vaccinated in order to participate.

Anctil said that there is a committee of doctors in the NCA who monitor COVID-19 related situations closely and see how people could play and gather safely and any decisions would be made according to them.
Any questions for Anctil can be directed to her email at anctill@strose.edu or her office number at 518-454-5282.

Jen Richardson, assistant vice president for Student Development, spoke about the possibility of having a vaccine clinic at the college and wanted feedback from the students. There would be no extra charge if a student were to get their vaccine through the college. As the eligibility opened up to people over 16 as of April 6 in New York State, as long as students go to school in New York and can provide their student ID, they are eligible to receive the vaccine. There is more information to come as feedback comes in. As of now, there are no decisions made yet whether students will be required to be vaccinated to live on campus for the next school year.

Any questions in regards to this can be directed to Richardson at richardj@strose.edu, covidresults@strose.edu or 518-454-2023.
