Senior Aubrey Bobo, number 11 of the Golden Knights Volleyball Team, scored 11 kills contributing to the victory. One of two team captains, senior Sarah Karhs, collected 9 kills, and freshman Katy Daniels, the defensive MVP of Thursday’s game, accomplished 17 digs.

According to head coach Brian Goodale, the team’s biggest accomplishment was their ability to hinder their opponent from obtaining a strong offense, forcing Dominican to commit a total of 24 errors.

“The team hustled, executed game plan, played through mistakes and kept the energy up” said Goodale.

The Golden Knights started off their first home game with confidence. After holding a steady lead for almost the entire first match and concluded with a solid 25-21 win. After a more suspenseful and climactic second match, Saint Rose still managed to stay on top 2-0 after a close 25-23. During the third and final match, a series of frequent kills and numerous blocks led to a well-deserved win for Saint Rose, ending the game 25-16.

With a current record of 2-2, hope is still at an all time high for a better and more successful season. Comparing to last year, coach Goodale and assistant coach John Leighton both predict that there will be a lot more wins.

“I expected them to play well, and they did. But there is always room for improvement and I’m always looking for ways to get better” said Leighton.

Team captains Theresa Staulo and Sarah Karhs, seniors at the college, expect great things from their team as well, also predicting a progressive season for the Golden Knights.

“Staying consistent is huge—collectively our team has a lot of talent and skill. Saint Rose Volleyball’s biggest team goal this year to be able to fuse all our talents together for a successful season,” said Staulo.

According to Kahrs, she and her teammates practice day in and day out in order to achieve cohesiveness and play better as a team, a process that requires a plethora of time and effort.

The women’s volleyball team will be playing their second home game Tuesday September 13 at 7:00 pm in the Nolan Gymnasium. Come and support the Golden Knights as they take on Post University in hopes of commencing a long and unbreakable winning streak.
