Facebook Is Not Your Enemy

Facebook. We spend hours and hours on the computer pretending to do homework when really we are watching people upload new pictures, post new statuses and like ridiculous fan pages. It is a way to waste time and procrastinate. It helps people “creep” on their friends’ lives and connect with family members and old friends.

Due to this reason, we all notice when Facebook has done something different, such as when Facebook changes fonts, reorganizes the picture viewer, and how extremely easy it is now to watch a person’s every move. What I do not understand, however, is why everyone is upset. There is a reason for Facebook’s changes. I, personally, do not know what that reason would be. I do know that it is not because Mark Zuckerberg hates you. “You” being those who make statuses saying how upset you are at him because he made a change to his website. If it was not for him, you may not have connected with old friends and family members, found out that your archenemy has the same shirt as you, and that your favorite celebrity is dating someone. If it was not for him, you would not be able to “creep” on your ex, post the kissy-face-peace-sign default picture, or make a fan page for surviving the crazy bus ride you and your friends took.

Some statuses that just happen to dislike Facebook include: “STOP CHANGING THINGS FACEBOOK. You’ve never made it better only worse!”, “Not going to even try to get used to this Facebook layout”, and “Really Zuckerberg? Haven’t you got anything else better to do?”

In my opinion, the chat set up is awkward. I liked how my chat was set up into groups. If I needed to search someone from Saint Rose, I would just look at my Saint Rose group to see who was online. Now, everyone is back to just being alphabetized. However, you do not see me making statuses about it and complaining about it because they are not going to do anything. Just get over it or get off of Facebook.

The changes are actually not that bad. There is a timeline on the right side of the screen to help any “creeper” out. It is a newsfeed within a newsfeed; Facebook inception? If that is not the most helpful thing, I do not know what else Zuckerberg could do for you. If you want to look at someone’s posts specifically, just go to their page; or, get off Facebook and do the homework you are procrastinating and most likely will stress over later on.

Some people have decided to not take it and move on. The new rage, Tumblr, has gotten a lot of new members, many of whom have outright said they deleted their Facebook. “Deleted Facebook…Life just got better” is one of the more recent posts that came up in a search. Another? “Tumblr has made me realize how stupid Facebook really is.” Since Tumblr is taking over Facebook like Facebook took over Myspace, just get a Tumblr and move on with your life.
