Complaints in Brubacher Hall

It is only the first half of the semester and already students are beginning to complain about the many issues that have been occurring in Brubacher Hall. Our water not being hot enough for our students and our heat failing to keep us warm enough to not wear hooded sweatshirts as part of our pajamas are some of the problems we deal with here in Bru. In the past few weeks, the weather has dropped and students want to take hotter showers.

The more days students went with lukewarm showers, the angrier their Facebook statuses became. Some statuses consisted of posts like, “Took a freezing cold shower today, Great way to start off my day -_-”, and others of the same tone.

Others complained of having to wear extra layers to bed in their statuses. One student who asked to remain anonymous said, “They should’ve been prepared weeks ago, I mean it’s Albany; no fall, no spring. Duh.” Other freshmen would agree with saying that they should have been ready for this weeks ago. But who knows, maybe our heating system is a little aged. If so, what about an upgrade? We pay close to $35,000 a year to attend this school; shouldn’t it be spent more on maintenance than a semi-formal or a trip somewhere?

Also, lately our students have taken it to the extreme with their “party hardy” moods and their bathrooms are suffering the consequences. To say the least, they did not look presentable and had a few students upset. I sat down with one of the RA’s of Brubacher Hall asking what he felt on the matter of what had happened. “It’s very annoying when you feel like you can’t use your bathroom comfortably and you have to walk into another hall to use their bathroom.” It is a matter of how mature you are when you go out. Let’s admit, most of you feel that since you are in college, parents are not around to monitor where you are, who you are with, and what you are doing. Have fun, but be responsible; just because your parents are not watching, who is to say someone else is not?

Even such a simple task as doing your laundry has become somewhat of an issue at Bru. It seems that no one seems to have a sense of timing whether it is to switch from washer to dryer, or to remove all together. Of course, why students wait until Sunday to do their laundry would be beyond me. However, if they do so, it would be nice to not have to wait for an available machine, or be stuck with the chore of removing someone’s clothing. Problems with removing someone’s clothing end up in no one’s clothes ever being dry because every one wants to fault someone else.

In all, other than our heating and water, some need major reality checks. Be mindful of other students here in Bru. You’re not the only ones that live there and that others use the same utilities you need to use. Also, respect people in your halls. They may not be as social as you, but they have the right to a quiet hall as well. Your actions affect not only you, but also those around you.
