It was a historic night at the Daniel P. Nolan gymnasium as head coach, Brian Beaury, earned his 600th career win with a 72-60 victory over The University of New Haven.

Coach Beaury is the first basketball coach at Saint Rose to reach this accolade, after 31 years at the helm.

Beaury wasn’t the only one who made history Saturday, Senior Tyler Sayre was honored before the game for scoring 1,000 points in his collegiate career. He was presented with a commemorative ball and received a healthy applause from the home crowd.

An 82′ Saint Rose graduate, Beaury dedicated his wins to his peers around him.

“I’ve had great assistants that have helped me grow over the years, players that have made me look good and a lot of support from home,” said Beaury proudly.

“The schools doesn’t really pay me to win or lose basketball games here, they pay me to teach and my medium is basketball,” said Beaury on what these 600 wins means to him.

With the victory tonight, Beaury becomes the 18th NCAA Division II mentor to reach the 600 win plateau.

The Knights started the afternoon out slow, only shooting 47.6% from the field, while holding New Haven to just 33.3% in the first half.

Senior guard, Chris Dorgler, said defense was key, “They locked us down on our motion offense, so when they had the ball we had to hold them which worked.”

The team had three players in double figures, Julian Lipinski, Damon Coleman and Shane Herrity. Damon, in his senior year, led the team shooting 4-6 from the field, while perfect at the line.

“We rebounded the ball really well, and shut down some of their key players,” said Coleman, finishing the game with 13. “Overall it was a great team effort.”

The team will be looking forward to their next game, where they will be heading to Manhattan to face Pace University on Tuesday.

Coleman said the team will be focusing on the little things in the next two days, to prepare themselves for this tough Pace squad.

The Knights advance to 4-0 in the Northeast-10, the first time in five years following tonight’s victory over New Haven.
