A Farewell from the Arts Editors

Well, Chronicle readers, this is it for a while. I’m off to earn my ears in Florida.

Back in September, I accepted a position at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando. I’m off to go be a part of Disney’s College Program, where I will be a PhotoPass Photographer for the park. I’ve had tried to get into this program for many years and I suppose third time’s a charm, isn’t it?

It’s surreal that I’m heading to the warmer weather and saying goodbye to Albany, a city I only lived in for a year. From obtaining opportunities that will help me advance in my career to going to some fantastic events (such as the one I wrote about for this issue), Albany and Saint Rose have provided me with some memorable times. I am thankful for all that Saint Rose has done for me – without this school, I would not be where I am today.

Before I came to Saint Rose, I was committed to the University of Central Florida (coincidence, I know). I paid my fees and I was all set to move out to Florida last year. However, something stopped me. I couldn’t exactly tell you what, but maybe it was me not ready to take such a big leap. Suddenly, at the very last minute, I backed out of going to school in Florida and came to Saint Rose. I will never regret this decision, though. Perhaps Saint Rose provided the year I needed to make myself ready to move so far away.

I cannot begin to explain how thankful I am for The Chronicle, also. I started writing in my freshman year of high school just for fun. At the time, I wanted to be a journalist. I always tell people that, in high school, I loved writing papers. That’s how much I loved writing. When I got to college, the love of writing papers was immediately destroyed (what can I say?), but I still had the love of writing in general. I wanted to get my writing published one day and The Chronicle has allowed me to do so. If you told me I would be an editor for a paper two years ago, I would’ve laughed. I never thought I would be able to accomplish something as big as this and I am forever thankful for this amazing opportunity.

While I’ll be stepping down as editor next semester because I technically won’t be a student at Saint Rose, I am confident that the next arts editor will be successful leading this section. I want to thank Mark, my amazing co-arts editor, for being such a great co-worker. I hope we’ve made the arts section something not only insightful but fun for you to read this semester.

I wish everyone Happy Holidays and I hope to see you all in the fall of 2019.

Well after a whole semester being an arts editor, I’ll be stepping down. No, I didn’t get fired (surprisingly) but I’ll be graduating.

When I first came to Saint Rose for my spring semester in 2017, it marked a new beginning but change is awful for me. The first semester was pretty uneventful but at least I settled in and felt somewhat comfortable. For the fall semester, I took Journalism 1 and Media Ethics with Professor Cailin Brown.

The passion that Cailin has is incredible and throughout the semester she kept telling me to write for the Chronicle. My post graduation plans is to be a film critic and she said that we always need reviews. It wasn’t until I saw that they needed a review of “Thor: Ragnarok” so I gave it a shot and submitted it.

It felt good seeing what I wrote in the paper and for the next semester, I wrote reviews and sometimes news stories each week. To my surprise, they wanted me to apply to be the next arts editor.

What shocked me even more is that they actually hired me for the job. Thankfully they also hired Lauren as the other arts editor and thank God. Lauren is such an incredible person and I’m so happy that she’s doing the Disney College Program!

Being an editor was a tough job but very rewarding. I’ll always treasure the memories and experience this semester working with The Chronicle staff. I’m not good with saying goodbyes but thank you everyone for helping me on my journey.

I hope everyone has a Happy Holidays and good luck with your finals.
